Ottawa Sand Pack
A first-time experience in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve — and in Africa entirely over four visits — was our sighting of African wild dogs, otherwise known as painted dogs or painted wolves.
African wild dogs are critically endangered, with only a few hundred of them in South Africa.
This is the Ottawa Sand Pack, which at the time of this sighting consisted of eight members, down from nine due to the then recent loss of the alpha female.
During this sighting, the pack was very active, playing, running around, and even drinking from the dam.
It was great to see African wild dogs, especially so early into this epic safari.
