Verreaux's Eagle-Owl
On our first day in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve in South Africa, we were treated to a special sighting: a Verreaux's eagle-owl.
This is a very large owl, and the species has the distinction of being the only owl in the world with pink eyelids.
As is typical of owls, this one was high up in a tall tree, but by pure luck, the owl was illuminated by the sun through the foliage.
It was not an easy image to capture, but I managed to do so despite the distance and difficult lighting conditions.
It was special to see a Verreaux's eagle-owl, and I was fortunate enough to be able to record the moment.
